Rob Colclough's pick
Fleurie
The 2015 vintage in Beaujolais, much like the rest of Burgundy was outstanding, hot and dry, with a prompt August harvest start date. Château des Jacques lends itself more to Pinot Noir and the Côte d’Or. Their winemaker Cyril treats the Gamay as such, with extended macerations, open top fermenters and oak ageing with a touch of carbonic macerated fruit. This all combines to create a wine that epitomises all that is good about Fleurie – ripe fruit, perfumed, silky and moreish.
