Institute of Contemporary Art opens doors to new home in Miami

The Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) has been welcoming the first visitors to its new home this week, located in the heart of the burgeoning design district in Miami, Florida. The striking building, with a facade of metal triangles, was created by Spanish architecture firm Aranguren + Gallegos.
To celebrate the opening and take advantage of having twice as much space as in its former home, ICA is offering a variety of programming, including large-scale installations, site-specific commissions and a selection of artworks from its collection.
The 20,000sq ft (1,800sq m), three-storey gallery space is highly flexible and can be modified to accommodate the specific needs of individual artworks and exhibitions.
Outside, visitors can also enjoy the Petra and Stephen Levin Sculpture Garden.
Ellen Salpeter, director of ICA Miami, said: “Our new building enables us expand the diverse spectrum of exhibitions, and public and educational programs, offered year-round – from ambitious thematic exhibitions and major site-specific installations and commissions, to workshops designed for teens and youth, seminars for graduate students, and talks and activities that engage the general public in contemporary art and ideas.”
