The results are in for the Congressional Physical Activity Challenge 2023, as US government officials have been embracing movement and exercise to influence positive policy change for the nation.

Powered by MZ-Switch heart rate monitors, this year’s contest on Capitol Hill saw category wins from Senator Rick Scott (pictured), Senator Cynthia M. Lummis, Senator John Thune, and the office of Representative Michael Cloud. Find the full results details below.

Exercise is crucial to our physical and mental health

Hundreds of members of Congress and their teams got moving for the yearly face-off, where every effort counts. In competing for Myzone Effort Points (MEPs) through regular physical activity politicians and members of staff lead by example in creating positive behaviour changes that last.

“Exercise is crucial to our physical and mental health, and we must continue to encourage Americans to get active,” said Representative Brian Fitzpatrick.

“I’m proud to co-chair the Physical Activity Caucus in the House, and I’m thrilled to see the annual challenge back on the Hill to raise awareness of the importance of physical activity.”

Fantastic opportunity to encourage healthier lifestyles for more people

“It’s been a bumpy ride for the fitness industry over the past few years,” explains Mike Leveque, CEO Myzone Americas. “But now with activity levels in gyms once again on the rise, the Congressional Physical Activity Challenge is a fantastic opportunity to encourage healthier lifestyles for more people across the nation.

“Using the MZ-Switch to monitor exercise and positive behaviour change in and out of the gym, this challenge is a shining beacon of the potential for us to get our message across to the policy-makers in the heart of DC and beyond.”

Role models for an active and healthy nation
“This challenge helps to raise awareness of just how accessible exercise can be when you make simple changes in your life to move more,” says Amy Bantham, President of the Physical Activity Alliance.

“The real win is in seeing our representatives in Congress and their teams walk the talk, serving as role models for an active and healthy nation.”

What is the Congressional Physical Activity Challenge?
The Congressional Physical Activity Challenge is a yearly competition lasting a month, engaging the offices of the US Congress in a bid to achieve the highest level of physical activity.

This contest is facilitated through a collaboration between Myzone and the Physical Activity Alliance, with participants using the MZ-Switch heart rate monitor to record their activity levels at all times.
